Potty Bootcamp

Official Potty Training bootcamp started on Saturday morning July 28th.

It was a good start to the day, as we were eating breakfast my good friend, Jamie called to check in to see if I was ready for the weekends big event. As I was talking to her, Addison told me "Mommy, sit on the potty chair?!" And we hadn't even begun...it was a good start.
I won't give all the details...but basically the day started by throwing away diapers.  More for the parents to not have something to go back on than the child. I had her throw them away (don't worry, we had already packed most of the away for baby #2) as I told her "no more diapers". Then I had her pick out some new underwear (Mickey/minnie mouse, disney princess and sesame street) and told her "now you're a big girl."

I had to plan to be at her side all weekend to not miss an opportunity to teach her to use the potty. So, basically every time she started to go I would scoop her up and bring her to the bathroom. It really didn't take long for her to realize what we were doing, and she was able to control her bladder better to hold and release it.

Day 1: she was about 60% success of either telling me she had to go, or finishing going on the potty. She was also completely dry during nap time and bed time-whereas she always would wake up previously with a full wet diaper. Pretty darn good.

Day 2: she was about 75% success with more telling me that she had to go, including #2. And continued to be dry at nap and night time. However, she didn't want to eat or drink much during the day and was getting pretty crabby. I thought she was just sick of me asking her if she was dry, or telling her "tell mommy when you have to go potty". Then it all made sense as she spiked a fever of 102 at 7pm after refusing to eat anything for dinner.
I debated whether to keep on with the potty training, but she was doing well and it would be more confusing to her to put back on a diaper after we were more than 2/3 of the way there.
Poor baby was up all night with a 103 fever every few hours, and no sleep for any of us. However, she did tell us during the night when she had to potty...so I figured even if she was sick she was still catching on.

Day 3: started with a doctors appointment - dx with probable strep throat and put on antibiotics. Despite running a fever again of 101-102 every few hours we watched a lot of movies and she only had 2 accidents all day....1 from being upset taking her medicine mid-fever and 2 from daddy tickling her.- and both times told us mid-accident "I have to go potty". She even told us while taking a shower that she had to go potty- and sure enough we took her out, put her on the potty and she did. Thankfully no fevers overnight, but called for me at 4am to go potty. Pretty good.

Here we are now on the start of day 4 and we are 100% for the day- despite a fever this morning waking up.

So- I am fully convinced this is a tried and true method for any of you looking to potty train now or in the future, as I am testimony to it as well as several of my friends.- even despite an illness midway.
